Chaplaincy Course
Prepare for professional chaplaincy through practical, ministry-focused training. Students will study chaplaincy principles, spiritual care, ethics, communication, crisis ministry, and practical ministry service.

THE CALL TO MINISTRY
Christian ministry is a calling to serve God and people. Ministry is more than receiving a title or holding a position. It involves commitment, responsibility, spiritual growth, character, compassion, and service.
A minister is called to represent Christ through words, actions, leadership, encouragement, teaching, and service.
Ministry requires a heart that is willing to serve rather than simply seeking recognition.
After completing this lesson, the student should be able to:
- Explain what Christian ministry means.
- Understand the importance of serving others.
- Identify characteristics of a faithful minister.
- Explain why spiritual preparation is important.
- Recognize the responsibility that comes with ministry leadership.
PART 1 — WHAT IS MINISTRY?
Ministry means serving. Christian ministry involves using one's gifts, abilities, knowledge, and opportunities to serve God and others.
Ministry can take many forms. A minister may preach, teach, counsel within appropriate boundaries, evangelize, disciple others, visit people who are experiencing difficult circumstances, lead ministries, encourage, or serve the community.
Ministry should always be approached with humility and responsibility.
A minister should remember that people are not simply an audience. They are individuals who may be experiencing joy, pain, uncertainty, grief, or difficult circumstances.
Effective ministry begins with caring about people.
PART 2 — THE CALL TO SERVE
Jesus demonstrated servant leadership.
Mark 10:45 teaches that Christ came not to be served, but to serve.
This provides an important model for Christian leadership.
A minister should ask:
“How can I serve
“What position can I have?”
Leadership in ministry carries responsibility. Ministers influence people through their conduct, decisions, words, and example.
For this reason, ministry leadership should be approached with humility and integrity.
